NOVEL REVIEW: KOYAK BY AINI BAKAR (PLUS MINI FAN CAST)

Bonne Fri-Yay Fadneiras,

As I promised in my previous post, today, I will share my review of a thriller novel I finished reading in the last two weeks. The novel is titled Koyak and it is written by Aini Bakar. Let's begin this review with Aini Bakar's bio...

ABOUT AINI BAKAR

The author of Koyak ~ Aini Bakar (Image: Aini Bakar's Twitter @nainibakar)

Aini Bakar is a Malaysian author and entrepreneur. I can't find much information about her on the net. But if you're interested in Aini Bakar's works, you can check out her Twitter account @Nainibakar She is a friendly person and definitely won't bite you ^_^

ABOUT KOYAK

When we hear the word 'Hacker', the other word that pops into our mind will always be 'criminal'. Yep, people always assume that hackers are criminals. But don't you know that some hackers are innocent ordinary people like us? And they help innocent ordinary people that the law fails to protect?

Protecting innocent ordinary people is what Hisyam and his buddies are doing. Hisyam and his Satwa Tenggara teammates are vigilante hackers helping innocent people. Well, the law is slow and unfair. That's what Hisyam always said. And agree with him ^_^

Being a hacker is not an easy job. Hisyam and Co. must always plan their missions well. Failure is not an option for Satwa Tenggara. Plus, their targets are not ordinary people. All of them are influential VVIPs. One mistake might cost their life.

In the story, Hisyam and Co. are sent on a mission to investigate an influential businessman named Datuk Sarif. Datuk Sarif is known to his followers as a charity man. His followers admire him for that. But unfortunately, they don't know that behind his kind-face mask, there's a devil behind.

So, can Satwa Tenggara bring down Datuk Sarif and expose his lies to the world? Datuk Sarif is a very dangerous man. He is the kind of demon who will do anything to protect himself including killing innocent people. So this is not an easy mission for Satwa Tenggara...

MY REVIEW OF KOYAK

First of all, I describe Koyak as an awesome thrilling read. I like the storyline, plot, and characters in this story. The storyline and plot are very exciting and intriguing. This story has a lot of suspense. It's a fast read indeed. It makes you want to know what happened next. This book is definitely a page-turner for me.

All the characters in Koyak are make-believe people. All of them have their strengths and flaws. To me, Hisyam is a very adorable main lead. He may not be James Bond or Zorro. But he is a very likable hero. It's cute that he likes to daydream about dating ladies like Selena Gomez and Dayan Trisha. Aww... he is just simply cute ^_^

My favorite character in Koyak is Berns. Berns is a very mysterious character. Before the author reveals Berns' character, I can't guess at all that she's a girl. I thought Berns was a guy and was up to no good. Btw, Berns' is also a go-getter girl. And this makes her more awesome ^_^

From left: D.O Exo as Hisyam, Kim Sejeong as Berns, Cha Eun Woo as Adam, Kwak Dong Yeon as Dave, Jimmy O. Yang as Sid, and Dave Patel as Dip ^_^

Besides the storyline, plot, and characters, I also learned a lot of things about hackers and hacking jobs. I admit, before I read Koyak, I had zero knowledge about hackers and hacking jobs. Hehehe!!! Learning about hackers is very exciting for me. And the way they handle their business is so interesting. It's really something out of the box. It makes the story mind-blowing and more interesting.

Aini Bakar's writing style for Koyak is also awesome. Her writing is simple and easy to understand. It makes me able to visualize the story well. Congrats to the author.

Last but not least, I rate this novel 10/10. Insya-Allah, I will reread this novel again in the future. I also highly recommend my fellow bookworms who are into the thriller genre to read Koyak. Trust me, you guys are going to love Koyak. It's just simply awesome. Reading Koyak gives me Healer deja vu. Healer is a 2014 South Korean drama starring Ji Chang Wook and Park Min Young.

Okay, so this is my review of Koyak by Aini Bakar. This novel is quite popular among  Malaysian BookTokkers and BookTubers now. Everywhere on the net, they are geeking about Koyak. So this is one of the reasons why you must read Koyak, guys. Hehehe ^_^

Before I end this post, let me ask my readers two questions...

1) Have you read Koyak by Aini Bakar?
2) If yes, who is your favorite character? And why?

Feel free to share your answers in the comment box below. Let's geek about Koyak together. I'll see you guys again in my next post. Insya-Allah.

  2. I have not read the book but the plot sounds like something I would read. The vigilante hacking reminds me of two TV shows I like. The Equalizer and Leverage are two shows that have vigilante hackers in it, and I love the things they do for others.

  3. I'm bookmarking this one! I love the narrative. It's very refreshing and it explores a world that few know about yet. There are many good "hackers" out there, putting their skills to good use. Some as we know are facing life's hell and isolated in foreign countries. Thank you so much for your review, loved it! ❤️
