THREE REASONS FOR WRITERS TO BINGE-WATCH ROMANCE IS A BONUS BOOK

Romance Is A Bonus Book (RIABB) is a 2019 South Korean television series drama starring Lee Jong Suk, Lee Na Young, Jung Yoo Jin, Wi Ha Jun, and many more. The drama belongs to the romantic comedy genre and it was aired on TvN on the 26th of January 2019 and ended on the 17th of March 2019.

RIABB was set in the present time. The story followed those who are working in the bookish industry in South Korea. The male protagonist, Cha Eun Ho (Lee Jong Suk) was a successful author. He also worked as a chief editor at a reputable publishing company. The female protagonist, Kang Dan-I (Lee Na Young) was a single mother and divorcee who was struggling to return to the workforce.

Eun Ho and Dan-I knew each other since they were kids. Dan-I was already a teenager back then. And Eun-Ho was only a kid (this drama has the noona-and-dongseng/older woman-and-younger man romance trope). Dan-I saved Eun-Ho from an accident and was injured. To thank her for saving him, Eun-ho visited Dan-I often. He even helped her acquire books to read from the library. Eun-ho later became interested in writing. The two youngsters stayed close friends well into adulthood. However, their friendship was strained after Dan-I started dating a selfish, inconsiderate man. Although he disapproved of her choice of a partner, and she too expressed doubt at times, Dan-I stands by her decision to marry this man.

Years later, Dan-I's marriage failed. Her husband cheated on her. Dan-I became a divorcee and she was also unemployed. She struggled to get back into the workforce. Eun-Ho enlisted Dan-I to help him find a housekeeper. But Dan-I secretly became Eun-Ho's housekeeper and took payment from him. Eun-Ho had no idea about it.

Eun-Ho was quite surprised when he finds out that Dan-I was the person who cleans his house all this while. Dan-I revealed her problems to Eun-Ho. Eun-Ho sympathizes with Dan-I. He helped her secure a job at his workplace as a task support worker. At the workplace, Dan-I surprised Eun-Ho and other senior executives with her creativity and hard work.

Besides romance, RIABB is also about the personal and professional challenges people in the bookish industry face at work. This drama is now listed as one of my all-time favorite K-dramas. I'm planning to re-watch this drama in the future. Hehehe ^_^

This drama means a lot to me since I'm a writer. Speaking about being a writer,  I believe RIABB is an awesome drama for writers to binge-watch. So in this post, I would like to share three reasons for writers to binge-watch Romance Is A Bonus Book. Now let's check out the three reasons...

#1 IT GIVES YOU KNOWLEDGE OF THE BOOKISH INDUSTRY

Image: couch-kimchi.com

Since RIABB is set in the bookish industry, this drama provides its audiences with A-To-Z knowledge about the industry. From writing to editing, printing, publishing, and marketing. I believe this is the main reason why writers must not miss this drama. Nowadays, being a writer is not just about writing stories and getting your work done. A writer must have an eye of an editor. A writer must also know the process of printing and publishing, and skills to promote, market, and sell their book. I did my MBA internship at Karangkraf (one of Malaysia's publishing companies) back in 2013. What I experience at Karangkraf is exactly the same as what this drama portrays to its audiences. Syukur Alhamdulillah. I'm grateful for that work experience and wish to be back in the bookish industry ^_^

#2 IT GIVES YOU INSIGHT INTO A WRITER'S LIFE

As I mentioned in point no.1, being a writer is not just about writing. So a writer's work is not something easy. Writers also face challenges while writing their work and after having their work published. And trust me guys, being a writer has nothing to do with being glamour. This drama tells you everything about a writer's life.

#3 IT GIVES YOU IDEAS TO MARKET YOUR BOOK

Promoting and marketing a book is a big challenge for writers and publishing companies. The female protagonist, Dan-I is a creative genius in book marketing. She shares creative strategies and ideas to promote, market, and sell books with her senior executives. Most of her ideas are unique. This is one of the strong reasons why writers must-watch RIABB. Watching this drama gives you guys ideas to market your book.

Ok, so these are the three reasons for writers to binge-watch Romance Is A Bonus Book. Besides romance and knowledge of the bookish industry, this drama is also fun and entertaining. The plot, storyline, and characters give you a warm feeling while watching the drama.

So has anyone watched Romance Is A Bonus Book? If yes, what are your opinions of the drama? Did you guys enjoy watching it? Will you guys repeat binge-watching it?

Ok, this is all for now. Thank you for reading this post. I'll see you guys again in my next post. Insya-Allah, for my next post I will share with you guys my review of a historical romance novel I finished reading last two weeks. So please don't miss out.

Take care  and have a good weekend ^_^

XoXo,
