NOVEL REVIEW: THE MIDNIGHT LIBRARY BY MATT HAIG

Eiyo dearies,

Welcome back to Fadima Mooneira. Today, I will share my review of a novel I finished reading last week. The novel is titled The Midnight Library, written by Matt Haig. So let's not waste time and begin this review with Matt Haig's bio...

ABOUT MATT HAIG

British bestselling author~ Matt Haig (Image: The Guardian)

Matt Haig is a British author and journalist. He is an author of both fiction and non-fiction for children and adults. Haig is one of England's bestselling authors. His novel, The Midnight Library is listed as one of the best books to read in 2020 and it is now been recognized as an evergreen read. The novel also won the Goodreads Choice Award during the same year.

Besides The Midnight Library, some of Haig's books are Reasons To Stay Alive, Notes On A Nervous Planet, The Comfort Book, How To Stop Time, The Humans, The Radleys, The Last Family In England, A Boy Called Christmas, and many more. Haig now lives in Brighton, Sussex with his wife, two children, and one dog.

ABOUT THE MIDNIGHT LIBRARY

The Midnight Library belongs to the self-discovery genre. The story follows a broken and wounded 37-year-old woman named Nora Seed. Nora's life has been going from bad to worse. Nora was once a girl with much knowledge, so many talents, and abilities.  She was good at philosophy, science, swimming, and even music.

Most people thought that Nora will be somebody when she grows up. But unfortunately, Nora ends up being a small pawn. Being a small pawn upset Nora. It makes Nora feels useless and that she is not good at anything. Everything is a regret for Nora.

One night, Nora decides to die. After Nora tries to commit suicide, she finds herself transported to a library. At the library, Nora is given the chance to undo her regrets. The library offers Nora books of lives that she might have lived. All Nora needs to do is open each book and enter it. But with so many choices, how can Nora choose which life is the best for her? Will there be a life that is perfect for Nora Seed?

MY REVIEW OF THE MIDNIGHT LIBRARY

I'm grateful that I've read The Midnight Library. I've been wanting to read this book since 2020. Oh wow... this book was quite hard to find in Malaysia. However, syukur alhamdulillah, the wait is over and it was worth it.

The Midnight Library is a 100% enjoyable read. And this novel is not disappointing at all. I describe The Midnight Library as an eye-opener novel about life. Reading this novel makes me realize that I must not have regrets in life. Everything happened for a reason.

There's no 'what if' in life. Everything that is done, is done. And not all bad things that happened to us are 100% bad. They just give us lessons and they help us to do better in the future. Being human doesn't require us to understand life. We just have to live with it and keep on moving. That's the beauty of life.

I like that the author used the chess game concept in this story. Being a small pawn is not a bad thing. Just because you're not somebody, it doesn't mean that you're a nobody. People with no rank or position also have an important role in life. So we must not underestimate small people. Rank and position are not everything.

Overall, I rate this novel 10/10. I highly recommend it to my fellow bookworms. The Midnight Library is a novel you must not miss guy. Trust me, you'll love it. Plus, The Midnight Library is also a novel loved by many celebrities and public figures such as BTS's RM & Suga, SF9's Rowoon, actor Kang Hanuel, and many more. This is one of the reasons why you must not miss The Midnight Library.

Ok, so this is my review of Matt Haig's The Midnight Library. So has anyone read this novel? If yes, what are your opinions of The Midnight Library? Do you guys see it as an eye-opener novel?

Ok, this is all for now. Thank you for reading my review. I will see you guys again in my next post. Insya-Allah. Take care.
