THE INTERVIEW

1) When did you first start reading for pleasure?
I have been reading for as long as I can remember. There are photos of me as a 2-year-old carrying a book around, so I’ve been reading for pleasure as long as I’ve been able to read.

2) That's cool. So what is the first book/novel you read?
I had the Winnie-the-Pooh collection as a kid, so they would have been the first books I read. But the first one I remember having an impact was Matilda by Roald Dahl.

3) Oh....that's a cool one. So what genre do you read?
I read contemporary, romance, literary, and women's fiction the most.

4) Do you judge a book by its cover?
Absolutely! It’s hard not to. However, the cover isn’t a determining factor on whether or not I’ll read the book.

5) What is your all-time favorite book/novel and why? Do you repeat reading it?
I have two. My favorite classic is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. And my favorite contemporary is The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. I have reread The Great Gatsby many times, but The Midnight Library is a newer favorite so I have only read it once.

6) Wow....these books look like an interesting read. So would you recommend your favorite books to other bookworms?
Totally! They’re both amazing reads.

7) Ok, so I'm going to add these two books to my reading list ^_^ So who is your favorite author?
I have a few: Angie Thomas, Taylor Jenkins Reid, Candice Carty-Williams, Jojo Moyes, Fredrik Backman, George Orwell, and Malorie Blackman.

8) What ambiance do you prefer for reading?
I like anything quiet and cozy. That usually means at home, curled up, with a cup of tea.

9) How’s the reading culture in your country?
I live in the UK, so the reading culture is good as the majority of the most popular books are in English and there’s a wide variety of genres readily available. It’s common to see people reading in public, shopping for books, or buying e-readers.

10) Auwww.....I'm happy to hear that. So do you have any ideas on how to improve the reading culture in your country?
There’s a lack of diversity for sure. Reading is a primary form of education, but many people limit themselves to characters and stories they relate to. If people were willing to pick up just one book by an author they wouldn’t normally consider, they could gain a whole new point of view and learn something new. Also, a huge number of public libraries in the UK have been neglected, which is sad to see. As a kid, I relied on my local library and the free card. There would need to a boost in funding for the smaller libraries to be refreshed and updated.

Thank you for participating in this interview, Anika. It's lovely to have you here. Ok, so these are all the questions I have. Again, thank you for sharing your knowledge of books, opinions on the reading culture in your country. All the best in your career and future.
