I hope you guys are feeling excited about this ^_^ For this month's book heartthrob profile episode, I'm going to share my analysis of Captain Christopher Phelan. He is a book heartthrob created by New York Times bestselling romance author, Lisa Kleypas. Captain Christopher Phelan is the hero in one of Lisa Kleypas' bestselling historical romance novels, Love In The Afternoon. Now let's check out Captain Christopher Phelan's profile...
CAPTAIN CHRISTOPHER PHELAN PROFILE
NAME: Captain Christopher Phelan
AGE: 28/29 years old
NATIONALITY: English
OCCUPATION: He was a soldier and captain of the Riffle Brigade (British army) during the Crimean War in Russia.
HIS ROLE IN THE STORY: He was the love interest of Beatrix Hathaway (the female protagonist).
HIS GOALS: Christopher planned to marry a Hampshire beauty named Prudence Mercer when he returns from the war. Prudence was a lady with class and she came from a wealthy family. But Prudence was not interested in Christopher. She doesn't bother to reply to his letter. Prudence asked her friend, Beatrix to disguise as her and write to Christopher. Beatrix did what Prudence told her to do. Soon the correspondence between Beatrix and Christopher developed into something fulfilling and deep. And when Christopher returns from the war, he planned the claim the woman who wrote the letters to him. But does Christopher knows that it was Beatrix who wrote him the letters instead of Prudence?
HIS PERSONALITY
The author portrayed Christopher as an arrogant man at the beginning of the story. Christopher had no interest in Beatrix at the beginning of the story. To him, Beatrix was a peculiar creature and uncultured. All because of her love for animals and nature, and her eccentric family background.
Christopher came from a very rich family. The Phelans were one of the elite families in the society during the Victorian era. He was brought up in a very sophisticated way. Therefore, Christopher was a perfectionist man who wanted everything perfect for him.
But after Christopher realized his feelings for Beatrix, he started to change. From arrogant and egoistical, Christopher became a very romantic and loving man. He loved Beatrix with all his heart and will do everything to be with her. Falling for Beatrix also made Christopher want to be a better version of himself.
HIS PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES
Christopher was a very handsome and charming man. His handsomeness is out of this world. Well, most Kleypas heroes have handsomeness that is out of this world. They all are so dreamy looking ^_^
Christopher was tall and masculine. He has the form of a strong, daring, and charismatic soldier. He has broad shoulders, a V shape body line, and slim hips. He was fair as Lancelot or Gabriel or Lucifer. Christopher had sparkling silver-grey eyes and his hair had the color of dark winter wheat touched by the sun. This is how Kleypas described Christoper's physical attributes in her story. I can imagine what this character looks like. And I believe his silver-grey eyes are his most distinguishing features. Oh wow... he must be very dreamy looking ^_^
HIS BACKSTORY
As I mentioned in the character's personality, Christopher Phelan was from a wealthy family. The Phelans were one of the elite families in the Victorian society. Christopher was also brought up in a very sophisticated way. And this made him a perfectionist person who wants everything to be perfect.
Christopher was also a very social person. He liked attending balls and parties. Plus, he was also a ladies' man and loves to flirt. But things changed after Christopher join the army. Being on the battlefield, required Christopher to hold a riffle and other weapons, and watch his colleagues get injured and died. Being in the army also required Christopher to kill some people. Killing people made Christopher scared to socialize with others. Christopher's memories during the war and ghosts of the people that he killed sometimes hunt him at night. This also made Christopher scared to sleep with a woman. He feared that he might hurt her in his sleep.
MY OVERALL REVIEW OF THE CHARACTER

Christopher is now one of my favorite book heartthrobs and Lisa Kleypas heroes. He is one of the book heartthrobs that I have a crush on. He's a real dreamy hero and an alpha male. He's manly and has charisma in him. Plus, Christopher is very charming, romantic, loving, and protective of the woman he loves. He is also the kind of man who will work hard to get the woman that he loves in his arms. I like this kind of man ^_^ Very brave and courageous. He knows what he wants and stays true to it.
Overall, Captain Christopher Phelan is a great guy. He is also a great book heartthrob a female author ever created for her story. Thumbs up to Kleypas for creating another great book heartthrob. This character really makes me swoon while reading the novel. And because of that, I highly recommend my fellow bookworms who are into the historical romance genre to read Love In The Afternoon. Love In The Afternoon is a historical romance novel you must not miss, guys. Trust me, you guys are going to love the novel and Christopher Phelan will definitely swoon you. But this novel has some steamy romantic scenes. So it is not suitable for those who are under 18.
