NOVEL REVIEW: THE KINGFISHER SECRET BY ALEX URBAN

Eiyo dearies,

Fadima Mooneira is back with a brand new novel review. Today, I'm going to share my review of The Kingfisher Secret. The Kingfisher Secret (TKS) is a spy-thriller novel written by Alex Urban.

For this novel review, I'm going to skip the author's bio. It's because I can't find any info on Alex Urban online and according to penguin.co.uk, the author has chosen to remain anonymous out of concern for the safety of his sources. Now, let's begin this review with a summary of the story...

ABOUT THE KINGFISHER SECRET

Grace Elliot is a journalist who works for a Montreal scandal tabloid called National Flash. Grace writes about famous people and she also gets to meet some of them in person. But the one that she gets to meet regularly is Elena Craig.

Elena Craig is a successful beautiful businesswoman of Czech origin. She was once married to Anthony Craig (one of America's richest business tycoons) and used to be an Olympic figure skater. Grace finds Elena interesting and her rise from lowly origins to fame via Olympic success is a matter of mystery which greatly adds to her popular appeal. So Grace decides to write a book about Elena.

When Elena finds out that Grace is collecting information about her life and past, she freaks out. Elena also makes Grace's life miserable. So many bad things happened to Grace.

To Grace's surprise, Elena is not an average Jill whom she can easily underestimate. Elena is believed to be a well-trained sparrow and one of KGB's most successful honey traps. Her codename is Kingfisher. Opps!!!

Elena's ex-husband, Anthony Craig, a loud, brash businessman with a history of shady dealings and sexual misbehavior is now one of the candidates for the United States 2016 election. If Anthony wins, he will be crowned as the President of the United States and he will control the nation. But behind Anthony, there's one powerful woman. The woman is none other than his ex-wife, Elena. Elena controls Anthony. But who controls Elena?

MY REVIEW OF THE KINGFISHER SECRET

TKS is based on the story of Ivana Trump and the 2016 US Election. Most people believe that Ivana is a KGB agent who wants to control the world. So she uses her ex-husband, Donald Trump to achieve her objective. However, the truth still remains a mystery.

TKS was published in 2020. And according to most book experts, this novel is one of the best books to read in 2020. However, I don't find TKS as a very enjoyable read. I'm not sure to say whether the story is boring or if it's just me losing interest in spy-thriller novels. Spy-thriller used to be one of my favorite genres to read besides classic literature, romance, and self-discovery. However, let me share my review of the novel one by one with you guys.

Actually, the first 10 chapters of TKS are interesting. But as the plot grows, the story becomes dull and duller. It has too many facts. In fact, it has more facts than stories. Plus, this novel also has a disappointing ending. And I don't like Grace Elliot's character. I find her very stupid and extremely annoying. Ahax!

However, I do believe that it is interesting to learn about Russian spies, espionage, and sexpionage even though these things are very disturbing. Reading about Russian spies, espionage, and sexpionage makes me tell myself that I don't want to be a spy and experience what Elena experienced. Trust me, guys, it's so not like Totally Spies. Hahaha :P

Overall, I rate this novel 7/10. Even though I did not really enjoy reading it, I still would like to recommend TKS to my fellow bookworms who are into the spy-thriller genre. Who knows you guys might enjoy this novel and find the story interesting. However, I need to be honest that this novel is not suitable for those who are under 18. It's because the story has a lot of disturbing moments.

Ok, so this is my review of The Kingfisher Secret, a spy-thriller novel by Alex Urban. Has anyone read this novel? If yes, what are your opinions of this novel? Did you guys enjoy it? Please share your opinions in the comment box below ^_^

  1. This book definitely sounds a bit heavy and interesting reasons why the author would want to remain anonymous. This isn't my sort of genre but great review!

    1. Yeah! The author must be a person of ‘this’ expertise. That's why he wants to be private.
