MY BEDTIME ROUTINE

Getting enough sleep is very important for our physical and mental health. But it is not an easy thing, especially for creative people like us. Our mind is always oozing with ideas. And all the ideas that suddenly pop into our heads make us want to fulfill them pronto.

I admit... I'm one of the people who gets excited with every new idea that comes into my head. And that gives me creative-somnia. I don't like having a lack of zzzzz. It makes me feel groggy and moody the next day. It even makes me binge-eating junk food. Oh gosh! That's bad! And it is not good for my socialization either. Uhuu...

According to health experts, setting up a bedtime routine can help us with our sleep. A bedtime routine is a set of relaxing activities to do every night before going to bed. I have set up my bedtime routine. Syukur alhamdulillah, so far my bedtime routine does keep me calm at night and helps me improve my sleep. So in this post, I'm going to share my bedtime routine and the six things I do to have a heavenly sleep. Now let's check them out...

#1 PERFORMED MY ISHA PRAYER

As a Muslim, I pray five times a day ~ Subuh, Zuhur, Asar, Maghrib, and Isha. At 8.30-9.00 pm, I usually performed my Isha prayer. After I'm done with my Isha prayer, I continue my creative work. But not heavy ones. And I time myself for the work. I try not to spend more than one-hour doing work at night unless I have more time.

#2 DO SOME STRETCHING AND BREATHING

Light and simple exercises like stretching and breathing can help us release physical and mental tension before bed. So it is important to do these light exercises. I usually do some stretching and breathing after I'm done with my creative work or sometimes after performing my Isha prayer. Stretching and breathing do calm me at night.

#3 GET MY BEDROOM READY

After Isha prayer, creative work, and light exercise, I usually went straight into my bedroom to relax. And when I say relax, I get my bedroom ready for me to settle down. I will make my room cozy and calm by turning on the air conditioner, setting up my room temperature, spraying lavender mist, and making my bed ready for me to lie down. Weeeee...

#4 DRINK BEDTIME BEVERAGE

Drinking bedtime beverages is one of the best ways to improve sleep. After I get my bedroom ready and cozy, I usually go into the kitchen to make myself a nice drink. In one of my September 2020 posts, I already shared with you guys My Top Five Favorite Beverages Before Bedtime. I love drinking chamomile, ginger, and green tea before going to bed. But there are times I make myself a nice cup of hot chocolate. It depends on my mood. Hot chocolate is one of the best beverages to drink before bedtime. It makes you calm. And it gives you happy thoughts before going to bed ^_^

#5 WRITE IN MY JOURNAL

Besides blogging and writing fiction, I also enjoy writing in my journal. And I like journaling in bed. After I settle down in my bedroom, I don't straight away go to sleep. I will rest on my bed, drink my tea/hot chocolate, and write my thoughts and positive affirmations in a journal. I sometimes plan the things I want to do the next day in my journal as well.

#6 READ A GOOD BOOK

As a writer, reading is a must. And since I have other things to do during the daytime, I usually read at night before going to bed. And yes, I love reading on my bed. Reading while bed-rotting is one of my favorite self-care activities. And since I do my reading at night, horror stories are something I must skip. Yes, I don't read horror stories. Hehehe ^_^

Okay, so this is my bedtime routine. What's your bedtime routine like, guys? Please feel free to share your bedtime routine with me in the comment box below.

Okay, this is all for now. Thank you for reading this post. I'll see you guys again in my next post. Take care.

Fadima Mooneira ^_^
