Five Asian-Hollywood Oppas Who Can Make It Big In Hallyu

Hallyu is a Chinese term and short form for Korean Wave. And the Korean wave refers to the global popularity of South Korea's cultural economy promoting the nation's pop-culture, entertainment, music, TV dramas, and movies. Hallyu is now one of the biggest phenomena in the world's entertainment industry. Hallyu is the Asian answer to Hollywood. The rise of Hallyu has brought a big change to the world's entertainment industry. The pop-culture fandom has moved from the west to the east with the rise of Hallyu.

Hallyu is now one of Hollywood's biggest rivals besides Bollywood. Like Hollywood, Hallyu is also embracing the diversity trend. In fact, Hallyu is going to be the entertainment hub for all Asian celebrities in the future. If you're a K-Wave follower, I'm sure you are aware that there are many international K-pop idols in the industry nowadays. One of the most popular international K-pop idols is Blackpink's Lisa. Lisa is Blackpink's rapper, and she's from Thailand.

According to one article that I read last year, there a lot of Hallyu filmmakers who are planning to bring in and cast Asian actors from other countries in K-Dramas and K-Movies. Wow!!!!!!!!! This will be awesome! I'm totally excited and looking forward to seeing some of my favorite Asian-Hollywood actors in K-Dramas and K-Movies. So for today's post, I want to share with you guys my list of five Asian-Hollywood Oppas that I believe can make it big and become a heartthrob in Hallyu. These five oppas are also the actors I wish to see in K-Dramas and K-Movies in the future.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the word Oppa, here's the meaning of the word according to italki.com...

Oppa(오빠) means "an older brother", and it is only used when a girl is calling an older brother or an older man who she trusts. In Korean, when a girl calls a man "Oppa", it implies that she regards him as an older brother who usually takes care of everything about her like her parents. In Korean culture, an older brother has a similar role to parents who take care of the family. So, when a girl calls a man "Oppa", it implies that she trusts him like she trusts her parents, and also it implies that she allows him to take care of her as her parents are doing to her. When a girl calls a man Oppa, it is supposed that she regards that he is in a position to treat her a meal, and you can see such a scene in Korean movies and dramas. Also, when a girl is calling a man "Oppa", he feels that he can get closer to her easily. Because of this cultural background, "Oppa" is used by a girl when she wants to express her good feeling toward a man, and often Korean female fans call a male celebrity "Oppa". In Hallyu, Oppa is also the word or term to describe a handsome man or hunk.

Ok, now let's not waste time. So here's the list...

#1 ALEX LANDI

Image: Alex Landi's IG @alexlandi7

Alex Landi is an Asian-American actor of Korean and Italian origin. He is famous for his role as Dr. Nico Kim in Grey's Anatomy. This gorgeous Oppa already has a name in the Hallyu entertainment. He is known as 2PM's Ok Taceyeon's doppelganger, and the young version of Song Seung Heon. Landi is also half Korean, which already makes him an Oppa. Plus, there are already high requests for Landi to return to his Korean roots and become a Hallyu actor. I believe Landi will be more famous if he migrates from Hollywood to Hallyu. I'm sure he will score more promising roles in Hallyu.

#2 REMY HII

When I first saw Remy Hii in Crazy Rich Asians, I thought he was a South Korean actor. Hii looks like a South Korean tho. Hii has the same charm as most South Korean actors have, that is the adorable eye-smile, electrifying eyebrows, and a small face shape. Plus, this Malaysia-Australian Oppa has a complete package to become a Hallyu heartthrob. He is good-looking, cute, adorable, talented, versatile, charismatic, intelligent, and a good cook (Hii can also appear in one of South Korea's reality TV shows and cooking programs because of his cooking talent). I'm sure this Oppa will win many hearts in South Korea with his charm and charisma. And as a big fan of Hii, I really wish to see him as IU's leading man. Hii is my current man-crush and IU is my current girl-crush. Seeing your man and girl-crush as an on-screen couple is a dream come true. I believe Hii and IU will look beautiful as an on-screen couple. I also believe that Hii and IU can be the Asian version of Leo and Kate.

#3 ROSS BUTLER

Ross Butler is a Malaysian-American actor who is famous for his roles as Zach Demsey in Netflix's 13 Reasons Why, and Brett Willis in K.C Undercover. Butler is one of the hottest Asian-Hollywood Oppas nowadays. He is known for his good looks, charisma, versatile talent, intelligence, and down-to-earth personality. With his package, I believe Butler will melt many hearts in Hallyu. And I also believe that Girls Generation's Im Yoona will make a perfect leading lady for him.

#4 DESMOND CHIAM

Desmond Chiam is a Singaporean-Australian actor and scriptwriter. Chiam is famous for his manly-and-macho looks, superb acting skill, charisma, and intelligence. Fans are already comparing Chiam to South Korean hunk, Ji Chang Wook. Yep, Chiam is the Asian-Hollywood answer to Ji Chang Wook. Like Ji Chang Wook, Chiam is also known as a hero who always saves and protects his leading ladies in his projects. I'm sure this handsome Oppa will score a romantic-action hero role in Hallyu.

#5 HENRY GOLDING

Henry Golding's IG @henrygolding

This Malaysian Oppa is one of the hottest Asian-Hollywood heartthrobs nowadays. Golding has won many hearts in Hollywood after playing Nick Young in Crazy Rich Asians. Since Golding has won many hearts in Hollywood, I'm sure he can also win many hearts in Hallyu. After all, he's already quite famous in South Korea. That's what I heard. And as a fan and fellow Malaysian, I will always support Golding in his acting career. Yes, I am rooting for Golding to become a Hallyu heartthrob. Yo, go, Henry Golding!

Ok, so these are the five Asian-Hollywood Oppas who I believe can become a heartthrob in Hallyu and South Korea. I'm a fan of these oppas and I really wish to see them in K-Dramas and K-Movies in the future. What do you guys think? Which one of these five Asian-Hollywood Oppas do you guys wish to see in K-Dramas and K-Movies? Pls, share your opinions in the comment box below.

Thank you for reading. Khungang haseyo ^_^

  26. I'd vote for Henry Golding. Maybe because I'm a proud Malaysian! Haha. Anyway, it's great to learn the meaning behind the word 'oppa'. I used to think it was nothing more than a term of endearment for a boyfriend.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Oppa is originally a Korean word for big brother. But because of the pop-culture influence, girls are using the word oppa to call/nickname any man they like/love i.e boyfriend, male celebrity crush, hunk. Similar to the word Abang la. Abang is originally a Malay word for big brother. But we also use the nickname Abang to call our spouse, boyfriend, and any man we like.
