MY TOP FIVE FAVORITE IU SONGS

Eiyo Fadneiras and fellow UAENAS,

Welcome back to Fadima Mooneira's part three of IU's 13th-anniversary special.  For today's post, I'm going to share with you guys my top five favorite IU songs. But before I list down the songs, let me share a short summary of IU and her music with you guys.

IU is one of South Korea's most successful female singers, songwriters, and actresses. She is now known as the K-pop queen and Hallyu sweetheart. Her real name is Lee Ji Eun, and she is 28 years old this year. IU made her debut as a celebrity on the 18th of September 2008. She was only 15 years old at that time.

Most of IU's songs are listed as chart-topper and evergreen hits. Plus, most of IU's songs achieved the no.1 spot in the charts during their debut and remained at no.1 for quite a long week. IU's success as a singer and songwriter has already been recognized by most American music critiques, and she has received a lot of compliments and good reviews from them. According to most American music critiques, IU's music is a work of art. They've also mentioned that her music is unique, soothing for the ears, makes listeners happy, and has intellectual lyrics to match with the beautiful melody.

Besides music critiques, IU is also admired by some Hollywood celebrities for her amazing talent in music.  One of them is Post Malone (American rapper). Post Malone once mentioned in an interview that he admires IU and enjoys listening to her music. He is also following her on Instagram and wishes to collaborate with her in the future. Wow... I hope that will happened. I really want to see IU making her debut in Hollywood as a singer, songwriter, and actress.

Ok, this is all about IU and her music. Now let's check out my top five favorite IU songs. We shall begin with no.5 to no.1.

#5 AH PUH

Ah Puh is one of the songs on IU's latest album, Lilac. Ah Puh is my favorite song in Lilac. This song is composed by Lee Chan Hyuk of Akmu and Peejay. The lyrics are written by IU and Lee Chan Hyuk himself. The melody of this song is very lively. It's very enjoyable to the ear. I love listening to this song while excising and drawing. Besides the lively melody, the song Ah Puh also has a very intellectual story in the lyrics. This song uses surfing as a metaphor to show the voice's ability to handle life.  Like a surfer who jumps into waves, the voice of the song also keeps jumping into situations even if it can be dangerous. Please feel free to listen to IU's Ah Puh by clicking the video above. The video above has an English translation of this song in it.

#4 BBIBBI

BBIBBI is one of IU's most successful digital hits. This song hits the no.1 spot on most South Korean and Asian music charts when it was first debuted. The song and lyrics were written by IU herself. The K-pop queen mentioned in an interview that she wrote this song for her haters who tried their best to torment her life with their negative comments. Bbibbi has a groovy RnB melody. This song has an up-tempo beat and it is good to listen to when you are having a bad day. It cheers up your mood. #3 HOLD MY HANDS

Hold My Hands is one of my all-time favorite karaoke songs. Hold My Hands is the first song that IU composed and wrote herself. This song is also one of IU's most successful hits. Hold My Hands was released in 2011. This song is an OST for a K-drama titled 'The Greatest Love'. Hold My Hands has a sweet acoustic melody. Hold My Hands is a very enjoyable song to sing. That's why it is one of my all-time favorite karaoke songs. Please feel free to listen to Hold My Hands by clicking the video above. The English translation for Hold My Hands is included in the video above.

#2 AUTUMN MORNING

Autumn Morning was originally a hit song sung by Yang Hee Eun (South Korean folk singer) in 1991. IU decided to make a cover version of this song during her 9th anniversary in 2017. Autumn Morning is a very beautiful song to listen to during the autumn season. The melody is very soothing and calming. Please feel free to listen to and watch IU's live performance for Autumn Morning by clicking the video above. #1 DEAR NAME

Dear Name is my no.1 and all-time favorite IU song. Dear Name is one of the songs in IU's fourth studio album, Palette. The lyrics of this song was written by Kim Eana (one of South Korea's most notable lyricist) and IU herself, while the melody was composed by Lee Jong Hoon. Dear Name is a ballad song with a very beautiful melody. This song is about love and hope. Dear Name follows the story of a person who once lost hope in a painful heartbreak. But at the same time, she is able to keep her faith and hold on to a hope that she keeps in her heart. Most netizens believe that the song is about IU herself. IU had a very hard life before she became a superstar. She had a hard childhood, grew up in poverty, was once conned, failed an audition, and even her debut was not a success. But all the hardship that IU had faced,  made her the queen of K-pop that she is now. I can even relate this song to myself. I was also once heartbroken when I lose my job at the Prime Minister's Department in 2018. Most contract civil servants were terminated after the 2018 General Election, and I was one of them. It was a very sad and gloomy experience for me. But that termination makes me stronger than the person I was back then. It also makes me love myself more. And most of all, that termination also makes me realize my true passion for writing and drawing, and I need to pursue it now.

Ok, so these are my top five favorite IU songs. For those who are a UAENA (IU's fans are called) like me, I have one simple question for you. What is your favorite IU song? And why?

Ok, this is all for now. I hope you guys enjoyed this post. And I hope to see you guys again in my next post. Thank you for reading and have a good day.

Fadima Mooneira ^_^

  1. K-pop isn't very well known in the UK so I haven't heard any of these songs before. But I like that IU writes her own lyrics as well as collaborating with other writers, and is happy to sing covers as well :)

    1. Yeah,... I heard. K-pop is not famous in the UK compared to in the US. It's because the British people have different taste when it comes to music right?
