NOVEL REVIEW: LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON BY LISA KLEYPAS

Eiyo dearies,

Welcome back to Fadima Mooneira. In my last post, I already promised that I will share a review of a historical romance novel with you guys. So here it is. The novel I'm going to review today is titled Love In The Afternoon. The novel is written by my favorite romance author, Lisa Kleypas. Now let's check out Lisa Kleypas' bio...

ABOUT LISA KLEYPAS

Lisa Kleypas is an American author. She is one of the A-list historical romance authors besides Julia Quinn and Tessa Dare.  19 of her novels have won the RITA (Romance Writer Of America) Award. Most of her novels are bestsellers and have been translated into 14 different languages. Kleypas lives in Washington, America with her husband and two children.

ABOUT LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON

Love In The Afternoon (LITA) is the fifth and final book in Lisa Kleypas' The Hathaway series. The story was set in the Victorian era. LITA tells the story of Beatrix Hathaway and her love interest, Captain Christopher Phelan. Beatrix was the youngest Hathaway sibling. She was a classic beauty, free-spirited, and an eccentric young lady. Beatrix was different from other young ladies during the Victorian era. She loved adventures, animals, and nature and was more comfortable outdoors than in ballrooms.

Beatrix had many admirers because of her friendly personality. She had also participated in the London season more than three times. But she had never been swept away or seriously courted. How come? Most elite families in the society believed that the Hathaway siblings of Hampshire weren't sophisticated enough. So they disallowed their sons to marry Beatrix. Geez... that's so unfair :'(

The love interest, Captain Christopher Phelan was a handsome and daring soldier. He wanted to marry Beatrix's pretty friend, Prudence Mercer. But Prudence was not interested in Christopher. She thought that he was a gloomy person and not her type. So Prudence asked Beatrix to disguise as her and write a letter to Christopher. So Beatrix did what Prudence told her.

Soon the correspondence between Beatrix and Christopher developed into something fulfilling and deep. Beatrix fell in love with Christopher. Christopher who did not know that it was Beatrix who wrote the letters to him believe that he had deeply fallen in love with Prudence Mercer even more. And he planned to claim her when he returns from the Crimean War. But does Christopher knows that it was not Prudence who corresponded with him? Can Christopher accept that it was Beatrix who corresponded with him? And can he accept that it was Beatrix that he actually fell in love with?

MY REVIEW OF LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON

As a big fan of Lisa Kleypas and the Hathaway siblings, I was excited when I first opened this novel. LITA is the final book of the series. I have read all the other Hathaway books before LITA. And I am also attached to the Hathaway siblings even though they are fictional characters. All these three points make me so thrilled and excited to read this novel.

Other than these three points, LITA is about Beatrix Hathaway. This makes me even more excited to read LITA. It makes me want to know what kind of happy ending Kleypas is going to give to Beatrix, and what kind of person her love interest is like. I've known Beatrix since I read the first Hathaway book, Mine Till Midnight. To me, Beatrix is an awesome character. She's one of the book beauties that I admire and look up to as a role model. She's my second favorite Hathaway sibling after Poppy. But I believe, I like Beatrix more than Poppy now. Hehehe ^_^

As a fan of Beatrix, I'm glad that Kleypas gave her a very beautiful happy ending. Beatrix totally deserves it. The youngest Hathaway sibling gets her prince charming and she also gets her dream. I'm not going to tell you guys what Beatrix's dream was besides Christopher. You guys need to read the novel if you want to know ;)

Besides Beatirx's character, I also like Captain Christopher Phelan. He's a real dreamy hero. He's manly and has charisma and x-factor. Plus, Christopher is very romantic. I now have a crush on Captain Christopher Phelan. He's now one of my favorite Lisa Kleypas heroes and book heartthrobs. Oh, how I wish he is real :P

Besides Beatrix and Christopher, I also love the storyline, plot, and side characters in this story. Everything was beautifully written by Kleypas. LITA is now one of my all-time favorite reads. I'm planning to read this novel and other Hathaway novels again in the future. Insya-Allah.

Overall, I rate LITA 10/10. I highly recommend my fellow bookworms who are into the historical romance genre to read LITA. Trust me guys, you will fall in love with the novel, story, characters, and Lisa Kleypas' writing as well. It will make you guys want to read more of Lisa Kleypas' novels. And I also highly recommend Lisa Kleypas' other novels to you guys. LK is just awesome! But I also need to be honest that this novel has more than five romantic lovemaking scenes. So it is not suitable for those who are under 18.

Ok, so this is my review of Lisa Kleypas' Love In The Afternoon. Before I end this post, I would like to ask my readers four questions related to this novel...

1) Has anyone read Love In The Afternoon by Lisa Kleypas?

2) If yes, what are your opinions of the novel?

3) Is there anyone of you a fan of Lisa Kleypas too?

4) If yes, who is your favorite Lisa Kleypas heroine? And why?

Ok, this is all for now. I hope you guys enjoyed this review. I'll see you guys in my next post. Take care ^_^

XoXo,

Fadima Mooneira ^_^

  1. Thank you for the review! Can't wait to complete my Hathaways series so I can start reading them too ❤ I have many Lisa Kleypas novels yet to be read. For the time being my favourite Kleypas heroine is still Evangeline Jenner, the Viscountess St Vincent (and later to be the Duchess of Kingston) hehehe 😍

    1. As a romance reader and author, I believe one of the reasons why most people love reading romance novels it is because of the characters. Romance characters make people attach to the book. I read other genres as well. But I hardly get attach to the characters.

  10. What a great review! I've never heard of Lisa Kleypas before, so thanks for introducing me to her. I will have to wait for her to come onto Audible as I've just checked and not many of her books are on there sadly. I do love the Historical Romance genre, and I love the sound of the characters in this books and can't wait to listen to it in the future.
