ABOUT ROMBONGAN KE MARIKH!

Rombongan Ke Marikh! (RKM!)/ A Field Trip To Mars! is a short social critique novel. The story follows the people of Kampung Serindit. Kampung Serindit was once a peaceful place. But recently, the village has been flooded with so many social problems~ from debts to love affairs. Oh dear! This is not a good thing for a small village.

Everyone in Kampung Serindit is fascinated with Erni Nur Metafora. She is a drop-dead-gorgeous young widow who also sells beauty products. Her beauty has been the talk of the people of Kampung Serindit. Most women dream of being and look like Erni.

One day, Erni offered the people of Kampung Serindit a trip to Mars. What? A trip to Mars? Is this for real? Oh wow! The terms and conditions to participate in this field trip are to buy her beauty product at RM10.00 (2.12 USD) only.  That's all. Hey... what? RM10.00 only? Could this be true? Is there a beauty product that only costs RM10.00? Oh wow!

Erni's offer is something out of the norm. But the people of Kampung Serindit believe her. And they are excited to travel to Mars. But is this trip real? Or is it a scam? You need to read RKM! to find out...

MY REVIEW OF ROMBONGAN KE MARIKH!

RKM! is different from all the novels I've read before. Plus, RKM! is the first dark comedy novel I've read. This novel has an interesting premise, plot, and storyline. They suit the genre. I believe this novel is a good satire and social critique.

I like the moral message of this story. The author criticizes orang Melayu kampung/village people who are too lazy to work hard.  And all they do is play the get-rich-quick-scheme, bad talk, and gossip about others. Geez... this is so toxic. But these things are happening in small villages in Malaysia now, guys. Just sharing one real fact :P

My fan cast for Erni Nur Metafora~ Crazy Rich Asians' Fiona Xie ^_^ (Image: asiaone.com)

Besides the premise, plot, storyline, and moral message, I also like the characters that Mak Chantek created for this story. They are funny and hilarious. And the character Erni Nur Metafora is soooo imaginative. This character also gives me Kitty Pong deja vu. Kitty Pong is one of the hilarious characters in Kevin Kwan's Crazy Rich Asians. In the movie, Kitty Pong is played by Singaporean actress, Fiona Xie. So I fan-cast Fiona Xie as Erni Nur Metafora while reading RKM! Hehehe ^_^

Overall, I rate this novel 9/10. This novel is a very cool, interesting, and hilarious read. It's also good for light reading. I highly recommend you guys to check out this novel. Trust me, you are going to enjoy RKM! Plus, this novel is also a page-turner. Once you open it, you won't be able to close it till the end. You'll be intrigued to know who is Erni Nur Metafora? Is this field trip to Mars for real? Hehehe ^_^

Okay, so this is my review of Mak Chantek's Rombongan Ke Marikh! Guys, if someone offers you a trip to Mars at a very cheap price, will you take it? Or will you think it's a scam and run away? Hehehe... feel free to share your answer in the comment box below.

Thank you for reading my review. I'll see you guys again in my next post. Insya-Allah. Selamat berbuka dan berterawih to my Muslim friends ^_^

XoXo,
