Today, I'm going to share a review of a novel I finished reading last week. The novel is titled It Happened One Autumn, and it is written by Lisa Kleypas. Let's begin this review with Lisa Kleypas' bio...

ABOUT IT HAPPENED ONE AUTUMN

Lillian Bowman was not a trophy wife material or even every mother's dream daughter-in-law kind of girl. The fierce beauty was not an easy woman to tame. Lillian was just too spicy and stubborn for any man. Except or maybe perhaps, the powerful and arrogant Marcus Marsden, Earl Of Westcliff.

Marcus was one of the most eligible bachelors in England. He was striking, very wealthy, intelligent, super charismatic, and has good leadership. Most young ladies dreamed to be his bride. And most mothers wished to have him as their son-in-law. But Marcus was a man Lillian despised more than anyone she ever met. And Marcus despised Lillian as well. To Marcus, Lillian was uncultured. And to Lillian, Marcus was extremely arrogant. Whenever Marcus and Lillian were in the same room, they can't stop themselves from battling furiously to gain the upper hand.

One afternoon, a stunningly sensuous encounter changed everything. Lillian discovered that behind Marcus' reserved facade, he was the passionate and tender lover of her dreams. And Marcus also discovered that Lillian was the woman that he needs to complete his life even though she may not have the material of a Westcliff bride. Marcus also realized that everything that he despised about Lillian was actually the things that he adored about her.

When Marcus told his mother that he had chosen a bride and Lillian Bowman was the one he wanted to marry, the countess was not happy with it. The countess threatened to destroy her son's and Lillian's happiness.

One morning, the countess had Lillian kidnap. The wicked old woman sent Lillian away from Hampshire. Away from her son. Will Marcus be able to save the woman that he loves before it is too late?

MY REVIEW OF IT HAPPENED ONE AUTUMN

It Happened One Autumn (IHOA) is not just a passionate romantic historical romance novel. It is also a very lovely and cute romantic comedy novel. This novel carries the from-enemies-to-lovers trope. This novel also has a lot of feel-good vibes in it. It's a very enjoyable read indeed ^_^

IHOA is a novel that gives me a lot of auwwww moments. Marcus and Lillian's relationship is so sweet and adorable. The way these two lovebirds love each other showers my heart with flowers. I also like the way Marcus and Lillian's relationship begins and unfold. It's very funny! Marcus and Lillian are two funny characters. They argue with each other a lot until they can't resist each other.  This novel has a lot of moments that make me laugh. In fact, I'm still laughing while writing this review. Hahaha :P

Before reading IHOA, I already knew Marcus and Lillian from Mine Till Midnight and Devil In Disguise. Marcus and Lillian are two famous characters and one of the most beloved couples in LK World. They are also the parents of Lady Merrit Sterling (the heroine in Devil In Disguise). So it is nice to read Marcus and Lillian's story after reading two books that featured them.

One of Marcus & Lillian's steamy romantic scenes in the story (Image: My Artstagram @fmooneira_art)

Marcus is a very bold character. I absolutely admire his boldness and charisma. I believe Marcus is a book heartthrob with a stunning X-Factor. Lillian is a very cool badass book beauty. I absolutely love her! She is fierce, strong, bold, spicy, sassy, and also funny. Lillian is not the kind of person who let others control her. She is unapologetically herself. Who cares if she is not a trophy wife material. Most important she's not fake. And I admire Lillian's confidence. She's a book beauty that all girls need to look up to as a role model. Overall, Marcus and Lillian have a very strong and striking chemistry. Their chemistry makes this novel very enjoyable to read.

Besides Marcus & Lillian, the romance, and the comedy elements, I also like the way Kleypas portrays Lillian's relationship with her younger sister, Daisy, and two best friends, Annabelle Hunt & Evie Jenner. Lillian, Daisy, Annabelle & Evie are four cool girls. Their friendship is so adorable. I now have a liking for all four ladies. And I'm now excited to read Lisa Kleypas' The Wallflowers series.

Overall, I rate IHOA 10/10. I love this novel a lot. It is a very enjoyable & lovely read, and the story touches my heart. I highly recommend my fellow bookworms who are into the historical romance genre to read IHOA. But I also need to be honest that this novel is not suitable for those who are under 18. It's because the story has some romantic steamy adult scenes in it.

Ok, so this is my review of It Happened One Autumn by Lisa Kleypas. So, has anyone read It Happened One Autumn by Lisa Kleypas? If yes, did you enjoy the story? What are your opinions of Marcus and Lillian's relationship? Please share your opinions with me in the comment box below.

Ok, this is all for now. Thank you for reading this review. I'll see you guys again in my next post.

XoXo,

  3. While I've never read any of Lisa's books myself (not the biggest historical romance fan), I've heard tons of great things about this title in particular. It seems as though the word "autumn" in the title made a lot of people grab it during this fall season! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

    1. That’s the beauty of LK novel. She featured characters that already existed in her old novels into her new ones. It makes you can’t get enough of LK novels. That’s a good marketing strategy for an author and their books.

  16. This sounds like a fun read! I love digging into new books during the cooler weather when we spend less time outdoors, so this is perfect timing! I am going to have to check it out - I love the idea of it being centered around a female character that doesn't quite conform to the 'trophy wife' stereotype lol

    1. So true! To me, the term trophy wife doesn't exist. It is only created my week men. Ahax!
