NOVEL REVIEW: HELLO STRANGER BY LISA KLEYPAS

Eiyo Fadneiras,

Fadima Mooneira is back with a new novel review. For today's post, I will share my review of a romantic historical romance novel I just finished reading. The novel is titled Hello Stranger and it is written by my favorite author, Lisa Kleypas. Now let's begin this review with Lisa Kleypas' bio...

ABOUT LISA KLEYPAS

Beauty with brains author ~ Lisa Kleypas (Image: lisakleypas.com)

Lisa Kleypas is a New York Times bestselling author. She's also a RITA (Romance Writer Of America) award-winning author of both historical romance and contemporary women's fiction. Most of Kleypas' novels have been published in 14 different languages. Kleypas is an alumnus of Wellesley College. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. She became Miss Massachusetts in 1985. Kleypas now lives in Washington with her husband, Gregory, and two children.

ABOUT HELLO STRANGER

Hello Stranger is the fourth book in Lisa Kleypas' The Ravenel series. The story is set in London during the late Victorian era, the year 1876. Hello Stranger tells the tale of a beautiful lady doctor named Dr. Garrett Gibson, and a lost soul hero named Ethan Ransom.

Dr. Garrett Gibson is the only female physician in England during the Victorian era. She is a beauty with brains, daring, and also independent as any man. As a career-oriented woman, Garrett has never been tempted to have romantic relationships with any man... until she meets Ethan Ransom.

Ethan Ransom is a detective turned secret agent. He's a man who breaks every rule. He is as gallant as he is secretive. Ethan is also a rumored assassin whose true loyalties are a mystery. Ethan is actually a Ravenel by-blown spurned. His biological father was Edmund Ravenel/the late Earl of Trenear. The late Earl had an affair with an Irish prostitute during his younger days. From the affair, they had Ethan. As a young man who grows up without his father, Ethan has no interest in polite society. He even does not want to have anything to do with the Ravenels.

However, Ethan is captivated by the bold and beautiful Garrett. To Ethan, Garrett is the most extraordinary woman he's ever known. Despite their vows to resist each other after a sublime night, Garrett is soon drawn into Ethan's most dangerous mission.

The mission suddenly goes wrong. Ethan got shot and is badly injured. In fact, he is now may be on his deathbed. Only Garrett can save him with her skill and courage. So, will Garrett be able to save Ethan from dying?

MY REVIEW OF HELLO STRANGER

Oh. My. God... I need to be honest and I cannot lie! This novel is absolutely awesome, fantastic, and brilliant. I absolutely love it. I believe Hello Stranger is now one of the best romance novels I've ever read besides Marrying Winterborne, Devil In Winter, Tempt Me At Twilight, and Dheo's.

Hello Stranger has different vibes from all the LK novels I read before. The story does not focus on elite society and it has nothing to do with London season. It's a love story about two working-class people. Plus, this novel is a dark chocolate romance. The story has dark and sweet vibes in it. Hello Stranger is also a cross-genre novel between historical and action romance.

Hello Stranger stepback cover ^_^

The two main characters in this novel are well-crafted by the author. I believe Ethan and Garrett are one of the best couples in romance fiction. They have strong chemistry in the story. I like the way these two love birds love each other. Their love and feelings towards each other are so strong, pure, and sincere. I totally can feel them. And it makes this story a perfect swoon-worthy read.

A snippet from Lisa Kleypas' Hello Stranger

Ethan Ransom is a very sexy AF and swoon-worthy hero. He is very manly, romantic, caring, and protective. His mysterious and enigmatic vibes are so charming to me. I can relate Ethan with Emil Muhayat, the male lead in my first novel, Fail Merah. Like Ethan, Emil is also a lost soul hero with a dark past. Both of them grow up with loads of angst and revenge. And these two heroes do not believe in love before they meet the love of their life.

Besides Ethan Ransom, I also like the way Kleypas crafted Dr. Garrett Gibson's character. According to Kleypas, this character is actually inspired by a real-life woman, Dr. Elizabeth Garrett Anderson, who is the first female physician in London during the Victorian era. Back to Dr. Garrett Gibson, she is not just beautiful and bright. But she is also quick-witted, brave, courageous, a go-getter, and most important she's a healer. Garrett heals the wounded Ethan with her love and kindness. The way Kleypas creates Garrett makes me able to relate her with Dahlia Jamilah, the female lead in Fail Merah. Like Garrett, Dahlia is also a healer. She heals the wounded Emil Muhayat with love and kindness. Plus, Dahlia is also bright, quick-witted, courageous, beautiful, and elegant just like Garrett.

Ethan & Garrett's most spicy scene in Hello Stranger. This scene is in chapter 20, guys ^_^ (Image: My Artstagram @fmooneira_art)

I also like that Kleypas relates this story to Shakespeare's Hamlet. It makes me curious about Hamlet. I even conduct some research on the classic literature. I watched Hamlet once when I was a child. But at that time, I was too young to understand the story :P So thanks to Kleypas, now I know what Hamlet is about. And now I'm going to use it as a marketing ploy for Fail Merah. Hehehe ^_^

Reading Hello Stranger makes me learn some Gaelic (Irish traditional language) words such as acushla. Acushla means darling. I absolutely love that word. It's very romantic and unique. In Hello Stranger, Ethan called Garrett acushla.

As a reader who enjoyed Hello Stranger a lot, I rate this novel 10/10. As I said before, Hello Stranger is one of the best romance novels I've ever read. It's unique but still swoon-worthy. I plan to repeat reading it in the future. I also highly recommend this novel to my fellow bookworms who are into the historical romance genre. Trust me, guys, you are going to love Hello Stranger. But at the same time, I need to be honest that there are more than five spicy romantic scenes in this story that is not suitable for those who are under 18. Plus, the author also used Karma Sutra as one of the commercial values for this story. Uuuhuuu!!!

Ok, so this is my review of Lisa Kleypas' Hello Stranger, the fourth book in the Ravenel series. So has anyone read Hello Stranger? If yes, what are your opinions of the story, Ethan & Garrett's relationship? Did you have a crush on Ethan Ransom while you were reading the story? Please share your opinions of Hello Stranger in the comment box with me. I'm still having a hangover on Hello Stranger. Hehehe :P

Ok, this is all for now. Thank you for reading my review. Insya-Allah, I'll see you guys again in my next post. Btw, I would like to wish Happy Eid Al-Adha to my Muslim friends. Wish you guys a good celebration with family and loved ones. Take care ^_^

XoXo,

Fadima Mooneira ^_^
