LET'S GEEK ABOUT THE RAVENELS BY LISA KLEYPAS
Eiyo Fadneiras,
I know autumn is back in the Northern Hemisphere. How are my friends in the Northern Hemisphere doing? I hope you all have a great season. Autumn is also a season for bookworms. Yay! So for today’s entry, I’m going to share a book-related post. I’m going to geek about one of my favorite book series, The Ravenels by Lisa Kleypas. Yay!
Now let’s begin with the author’s bio ...
ABOUT LISA KLEYPAS
Lisa Kleypas is a New York Times bestselling author. She's also a RITA award-winning author of both historical romance and contemporary women's fiction. Most of Kleypas' novels have been published in 14 different languages. Kleypas is an alumnus of Wellesley College. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. She became Miss Massachusetts in 1985. Kleypas lives in Washington with her husband, Gregory, and two children.
ABOUT THE RAVENEL SERIES
The Ravenels is one of the famous book series by Lisa Kleypas, besides the Wallflowers and the Hathaways. The series consists of seven books ~ Cold-Hearted Rake (2015), Marrying Winterborne (2016), Devil In Spring (2017), Hello Stranger (2018), Devil’s Daughter (2019), Chasing Cassandra (2020), and Devil In Disguise (2021). All books from the Ravenel series are published by Avon Books.
The stories are set in England during the late Victorian era and follow the Ravenel family and their love interests. Besides romance, the Ravenel series is also about family, siblings, cousins, and kindness. Like the Wallflowers and the Hathaways, Kleypas also promotes diversity in the Ravenels. She also uses her knowledge of fashion history as one of the commercial elements for the Ravenel series. This makes all seven books chic, lively, and enjoyable to read.
All characters in the Ravenel series are flawed people. But all of them have their own specialties. Plus, they are kind too. They love, support, and take care of each other. They also help each other and their loved ones to become a better version of themselves.
The Ravenels is a good series to binge-read, especially if you're into romantic stories with good values and swoon-worthy alpha male heroes. Hehehe ^_^ Plus, all seven books are also mind-blowing. Reading them gives me a new perception of love and being with a special someone, especially Chasing Cassandra ^_^. All seven books are eye-openers to love. And what’s cool about the Ravenel series is that some of the characters are related to the characters in the Wallflowers series. Wow! I’m always fascinated with the universe LK created for her stories.
If you guys want to know more about The Ravenels, you can check out my reviews on each Ravenel book. I’ll share the link at the end of this post. Now let's move on to some geeking questions. I'm going to ask myself seven questions about The Ravenels. You guys can also participate by sharing your answers in the comment box below.
#1 WHEN DID YOU FIRST START READING THE RAVENELS BY LISA KLEYPAS? AND WHAT IS THE FIRST RAVENEL BOOK YOU READ?
Back in 2023, after I had collected all seven books. Whew!!! Some titles are hard to find, especially Marrying Winterborne. I guess Rhyss Winterborne must have so many female readers in love with him. Hehehe :P
The first Ravenel book I read was Cold-Hearted Rake. It’s the first book in this series. Cold-Hearted Rake follows Devon Ravenel (the earl of Trenear) and his late cousin’s widow, Kathleen. The story has an interesting premise. But it’s my least favorite of the Ravenel series. Maybe because the male lead is such a nasty love-machine. Hahaha :P
#2 RANK ALL SEVEN RAVENEL BOOKS FROM MOST FAVORITE TO LEAST FAVORITE?
1) Chasing Cassandra (Lady Cassandra Ravenel & Tom Severin)
2) Hello Stranger (Ethan Ransom & Dr. Garret Gibson)
3) Marrying Winterborne (Lady Helen Ravenel & Rhyss Winterborne)
4) Devil’s Daughter (West Ravenel & Phoebe, Lady Clare)
5) Devil In Spring (Lady Pandora Ravenel & Gabriel, St. Vincent)
6) Devil In Disguise (Lady Merritt Sterling & Keir MacRae)
7) Cold-Hearted Rake (Devon Ravenel, the earl of Trenear & Kathleen, Lady Trenear)
#3 WHAT MAKES CHASING CASSANDRA YOUR FAVORITE BOOK OF THE RAVENEL SERIES?
Chasing Cassandra is a very beautiful novel. I believe it is one of the best LK books I’ve ever read besides Tempt Me At Twilight, Devil In Winter, and Again The Magic. And this novel was listed no.1 in the chart of Best Books I’ve Read in 2024. This novel is not just swoon-worthy. But it is also heartwarming and shows the reality of a relationship. Chasing Cassandra is definitely an eye-opener novel for me. I learned some valuable love lessons from reading this novel. And the lessons are:-
1) LOVE IS ABOUT EMBRACING EACH OTHER'S IMPERFECTIONS,
2) LOVE IS A MIRACLE,
3) IF YOU LOVE SOMEONE, BE PATIENT. GIVE THEM TIME AND SPACE, AND
4) IF IT'S MEANT TO BE, IT WILL FIND YOU
Besides the love lessons, Chasing Cassandra has a very compelling plot and storyline. The story is so heartwarming. It touches my heart deeply. I cried tears of joy at the end of the story. CC is a very healing novel indeed. It gives me the feeling of having someone special by my side.
Of course, the male lead, Tom Severin, is a very swoon-worthy book heartthrob. He is now one of my top three favorite book heartthrobs alongside Harry Rutledge and Dheo Han. The female lead, Lady Cassandra, is also a very beautiful character. She is kind, patient, and a very healing heroine indeed. Plus, Tom and Cassandra’s chemistry is so electrifying. Auuuuuwwwwww!!!!!!!!
#4 WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE MALE LEAD IN THE SERIES? AND IS THE CHARACTER CLOSE TO YOUR IDEAL TYPE?
Hehehe ... that has to be Tom Severin. And yes, Tom is close to my ideal type. Tom Severin is different from most romance novel male leads I’ve read. He is more of a sigma male than an alpha male. Tom Severin is portrayed as a fine gentleman with a sentimental heart. He is kind-hearted, sensitive, gentle, romantic, loving, and caring. Besides his sweet personality, Tom is also portrayed by the author as a very hard-working and responsible man. Tom is also charismatic and has good leadership qualities.
My favorite hero in the Ravenel series ~ Tom Severin of Chasing Cassandra ^_^ (Image: My Artstagram @fmooneira_art)
But Tom has an abandonment issue. The abandonment issue makes Tom refuse to be the man he is. He tells everyone and even himself that he is a frozen-hearted man. Tom's backstory makes me sympathize with him and love him even more. I cried a lot when I was reading Chasing Cassandra.
I believe Tom Severin is one of the best book heartthrobs created by Lisa Kleypas. Tom Severin is not just swoon-worthy. He is also a make-believe character. I can strongly relate this character to a real person.
#5 WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE FEMALE LEAD IN THE SERIES? AND CAN YOU STRONGLY RELATE TO THE CHARACTER?
My two favorite female leads of the series ~ Dr. Garrett Gibson of Hello Stranger, and Lady Pandora Ravenel of Devil In Spring ^_^
Oh wow ... this is so hard to answer. All Ravenel female leads are awesome in their own way. But my no.1 favorite has to be Dr. Garrett Gibson. And yes, I can strongly relate to Dr. Garrett. Like Dr. Garrett, I’m spiritually independent, so not clingy, headstrong, naturally hard to get, and a deep woman. Dr. Garrett is not easy for any guy to woo, but when she meets her Mr. Right, she loves him deeply with all her heart. Same with moir ^_^
Besides Dr. Garrett, I can also relate to Lady Pandora Ravenel. Like Pandora, I’m quirky, artistic, creative, imaginative, have visions and dreams, like to invent my own words, and unapologetically myself. Pandora loves herself as the way she is. She doesn’t want to be fixed. And so do I :P
Alright, so these are the geeking questions I have. You guys can answer them as well. And you guys can share your answers in the comment box below. Before I end this post, I want to ask you guys two related questions...
1) Are you a fan of The Ravenel series by Lisa Kleypas?
2) If yes, which Ravenel character would you like to trade places with? And why?
Feel free to share your answers in the comment box below. Let's geek about our favorite things. Yay!!!
Okay, this is all for now. Thank you for joining me on this special geeking post. I’ll see you guys in my next post. Take care ^_^
